Sing Tehus Copenhagen – A Hidden Japanese Teahouse for Exceptional Matcha

Sing Tehus, this tiny little Japanese teahouse, was a big, very positive surprise for us. Initially, we just wanted to have some matcha in Copenhagen, but boy, did we get it. Instead of finding a generic café serving an over-sweetened green latte, we found ourselves on an island of calmness right in the middle of Copenhagen.

An Island of Calmness

This is a big thing in itself, as Copenhagen and Danes are not exactly famous for being nervous and rushed. But still, even in a city that almost made happiness and tranquility — hygge — part of its international brand, Sing Tehus delivered something exceptional.

And the whole experience starts before you even taste the tea. Sing Tehus is not sitting loudly on the street, trying to grab your attention. You turn away from the lively Vesterbro street, walk through a simple doorway and a narrow passage, and suddenly you find yourself in a small inner courtyard.

That tiny transition already changes the mood. The noise of the city stays behind you, the courtyard opens up with a few tables, plants, and soft colors, and the teahouse appears almost like a hidden room you were lucky enough to find.

Inside, the feeling continues. Wooden tables, warm lamps, simple shelves full of tea, cups, teapots, and all those small objects that immediately tell you this place takes tea seriously. Nothing is overdone, nothing is loud. It’s simple, quiet, and very intentional.

Matcha Is on the Next Level Here

And then came the matcha. I’m not a matcha expert, so I won’t pretend to analyze it like a tea master. But I can tell you one thing very clearly: this was undoubtedly the best matcha both of us have ever had.

We tried one hot and one cold version, both as matcha latte, and both were exceptional. At Sing Tehus, matcha latte is made with oat milk, and honestly, it worked beautifully. Not bitter in that unpleasant way, not over-sweetened, not hidden under sugar until it becomes just another trendy café drink. It had depth, softness, and that beautiful green tea flavor that makes you understand why matcha can be a whole world in itself.

Also, don’t expect the matcha latte to appear on your table in thirty seconds. It took minutes to prepare, and you can feel that this is part of the whole experience. In a rushed café environment, this might feel slow. Here, it felt like care. If you’re aiming for real perfection, you’ll appreciate the almost tedious attention they put into every little detail.

Sipping Matcha in the Courtyard

Both drinks came with a small peanut mochi, which was a lovely little addition. The warm matcha was also served with a small glass of cold brew tea, and that was another surprise. It was so clean, fruity, and naturally sweet that it almost felt like drinking pressed grapes, only in tea form.

And then there was the simple fact of sitting there. Sipping those matcha lattes slowly in the courtyard, surrounded by flowers, quiet tables, and the soft colors of the old building, added a lot to the whole feeling. It wasn’t just that the drinks were excellent. It was that the place gave them the right setting.

So yes, if you come to Sing Tehus, don’t just come for “a matcha latte.” Come here to understand what matcha can be when it’s treated seriously. And if the weather allows it, sit outside in the courtyard for a while. That little pause is part of the experience.

Sing Tehus in Copenhagen

Sing Tehus actually has two locations in Copenhagen, and I included both of them on this interactive map. We visited the one in Vesterbro, near Copenhagen Central Station, but I’m sure their other place near Trianglen metro station is just as good. Check their official website for more information and current opening hours.
