You need to come to the original location of Gasoline Grill in Copenhagen to instantly understand where their name comes from. They serve burgers in the former shop of a downtown gas station near Nyhavn and Kongens Nytorv.
Interestingly, the place is still a functioning gas station to this day. You can fill up your car, or charge it, while waiting for your burger. The gas station is fully automatic though, no need for a cashier. That’s how the famous gas station burger occupied the former shop area and is serving probably the best burger in Copenhagen.
Gasoline Grill Burgers
There is a limited menu in Gasoline Grill, but I think that’s just how a great street food burger place should operate. We tasted the two most iconic ones, original burger and cheeseburger, and let me share with you which one we recommend.
But first of all some general thoughts about their burgers. All are made fresh, the excellent patty is grilled to order. This of course means that you have to wait at least 3-5 minutes for your burgers, but it’s definitely worth the time.
They use all organic ingredients, you can absolutely feel that in the very natural flavor of their burgers. The bun is also homemade, an excellent pairing with the meat. Although it was a bit dry the time I tested them for this review, but during my former visits I had never noticed this issue.
Gasoline Grill burgers actually have one of the best meat flavor I ever tasted in a burger, with black pepper and salt as only seasonings. The way a great burger should be. The meat is smoky yet soft, grilled to medium, excellent.
And one more thing. They take it so seriously to serve only fresh food, that they have daily fresh supply of each ingredient, and actually close at that particular location when they are sold out for that day.
Gasoline Original Burger
This, according to its name, is the burger they started with. It has the incredible signature Gasoline Grill patty, but the burger itself is more on the veggie side. It comes with a big dash of iceberg lettuce and some slices of tomato.
Very good if you like the burger-salad mix, but in my opinion all these veggies make this burger too cold, watery, and ultimately dilute the flavor of the meat.
Gasoline Grill Cheesburger
This is the burger to dye for. I would say not only the best burger I tasted in Copenhagen, but in my whole life.
The flavor of the freshly grilled patty is very intense, yet it’s perfectly accompanied with the cheese, a couple of slices of pickle, onion and their signature gasoline burger sauce. Just the right combination, no excess vegetables. I mean a burger is a burger, a salad is a salad. Eat them both, eat them in their place, but don’t mix them.
Gasoline Grill Copenhagen Locations
Gasoline Grill now has several locations throughout the Danish capital, including CPH international airport.
I still encourage you to try the original place though, for two reasons. One, this is the real gas station location. It’s only here where you’ll have that particular feeling and experience that comes with the name. Two, according to my experience, there are subtle differences between the burgers sold at their different locations. And at the gas station they serve the best.
