Budapest Money Museum Panorama Terrace: A Hidden Gem

Perched above Széll Kálmán Square, tucked away on the roof of the Money Museum, the Panorama Terrace welcomes visitors with a one-of-a-kind view. Although it’s still little known among tourists, this spot is worth a visit on its own. Prices are on par with an average café, which makes it even more appealing.

First Impressions

A security guard greets you at the entrance—just mention you’re headed to the café. From there, take the elevator to the seventh floor, where the modern interior immediately catches the eye. You order at the counter, and the staff brings drinks and food to your table.

From the terrace, a sweeping panorama opens up: Széll Kálmán Square, Buda, Rózsadomb, and even the more distant parts of North Pest. You can linger for hours over a coffee and drink in the view, and prices stay totally affordable.

Service is generally friendly, if a bit no-nonsense; that extra touch of warmth is sometimes missing. At times it feels best to place your order and skip special requests—they can be a bit of a hassle. Food and drink service can also be slow, even when the place isn’t busy.

The Menu

The selection is similar to a regular café’s: various coffees and teas, a few pastries, and sandwiches. There are gluten-free and dairy-free options, though there isn’t a pastry that’s both gluten- and dairy-free. The coffee, however, is excellent—we especially liked the Americano and the iced coffee with almond milk.

That said, the view more than makes up for any drawbacks. It’s definitely worth visiting at least once; it’s a perfect spot to chat or get a bit of work done. You can also head up to the ninth floor for a 360-degree city view.

A Taste of What We Tried: The Coffees

From the drink list, we tried two coffees: an Americano and an iced coffee with almond milk.

The Americano was pleasantly bold without any sourness, which made for a particularly nice experience.

The iced coffee with almond milk was another excellent pick; it came packed with ice, perfectly refreshing on a hot summer day. The flavors were well balanced, and the almond milk added a pleasantly creamy finish. Overall, the coffee quality was excellent—definitely worth enjoying alongside the beautiful view.

Pecan–White Chocolate Cake

From the pastry case we tried a pecan–white chocolate cake that, at first glance, looked a lot like the one at IKEA’s café. The flavor, though, was a bit different: the crumb was less tender and the profile less distinctive. While it wasn’t unforgettable, it was a pleasant dessert that sweetened our time there. If you’re in the mood for something simple yet tasty, it’s a fine choice to go with that wonderful view.
